Transsexual Women's Resources
If you have gender identity issues, don't let it eat you up inside! You are not alone! I'm providing resources here so you can find the help that you need.
Factions and Divides Within the Transgender Community
A work in progress documenting the battlefronts in the unfortunate, funny-in-a-clown-dying-kinda-way war within the LGBT and transgender communities. I'm compiling this information here so that you don't get thrown into the shitstorm unprepared. Read, inform yourself, and form your own opinions. Personally it all reminds me of the psychology behind the Prisoner's Dilemma.
Divides between the GL and T communities:
Archaeology of Bi- and Transphobia Within the U.S. Gay and Lesbian Community
Why the Transgender Community Hates HRC
Why the Transgender Community Hates Susan Stanton
Divides within the transgender community:
Autogynephilia - The theory that transsexuals are an extreme form of transvestic fetishism, aroused by the thought of themselves as women. The most prominent transgender subscribing to this theory is Dr. Anne Lawrence.
Women Born Transsexual (Harry Benjamin Syndrome) - Transsexual separatist movement who prefer not to be defined under the larger transgender umbrella with crossdressers, non-op transsexuals etc. Another site.
Militant Activism - Sect who believe those who choose to live stealth are cowards and delusional.
Websites
TS Roadmap - The single best resource site for transsexuals.
TG Crossroads - Transsexual news source.
The International Foundation for Gender Education - Advocacy group for the freedom of gender expression.
Heathers.net - Another good site written by a transsexual.
Operation Description - For the less-squeamish, this site by a plastic surgeon is a good guide to how the final surgery is performed.
The Advocate - Mainly a gay publication, but covers transgender issues as well.
Magazines
The Advocate - Mainly a gay publication, but covers transgender issues as well.
Transgender Tapestry - One of the very few non-porn transsexual magazines out there.
Books
How Sex Changed: A History of Transsexuality In the United States - Joanne Meyerowitz
Sexing The Body - Anne Fausto-Sterling
Crossing - Deirdre McCloskey
Readers In Cultural Criticism: Gender - Edited by Anna Tripp
I would NOT recommend Transsexualism: Illusion and Reality unless you want to come out of it depressed and suicidal.
Movies Normal - This is an HBO movie available on DVD, about a man who has been married for 25 years, has two kids, and realizes that he is a transsexual.
Transamerica - Not completely accurate, but gets the general idea right.
